Ed Sheeran gets real about being a first-time dad

A roller coaster

Ed Sheeran has opened up about being a new dad and it sounds like parenthood is treating him pretty well. The Bad Habits singer and his wife Cherry Seaborn welcomed their first child, a baby girl named Lyra Antarctica, last year.

The new dad said his daughter has completely changed his world for the better. In an interview on Sirius XM, the Shape of You singer couldn't help but gush about fatherhood, saying "it's the best thing that ever happened to me."

“There’s so many different sides and shades to it. You know, there’s difficult days, there’s amazing, easy days.”

The singer-songwriter continued, "It’s just a roller coaster of emotions. I know that sounds like a cliché thing to say, but it’s amazing. I love it.”

The Perfect singer may be loving parenthood, but he admitted that the best thing he's learned so far is that, "No parent knows what they're doing."

Sheeran even shared that baby Lyra has even helped his career. The dad said having a child in his life has helped add structure to his days. "I feel like with a kid, you need a structured workday. You can’t be working until like 2 o’clock in the morning.”

The singer's daughter even recognises his voice when he plays her his music, which is a welcome change considering she used to cry when she first heard the Galway Girl singer's music.

Sheeran previously told the BBC Radio 1: "I’ll sing to my daughter, who’s not my biggest fan. She just cries."

Lyra is Sheeran and wife Cherry's first child together.
