There’ll be heartbreak in the Dale next week after Chas and Paddy welcome their newborn baby daughter who then dies soon after birth.
Baby Grace suffers from a rare birth defect, meaning that she is unable to survive outside of the womb.
The condition, bilateral renal agenesis, caused Grace’s kidneys to under develop.
The defect was discovered when Chas went for her 20 week scan, and despite knowing that their baby would not live long once she was born, Chas and Paddy decided to continue with the pregnancy.
Next week, the parents will welcome their daughter and soon say goodbye to her again as she passes away in mum Chas’s arms.
Emotive scenes will see the pair tell their daughter about all of the things she will miss in life. They also plan a trip away with Grace that they both know will never happen.
Lucy Pargeter, who plays Chas in the ITV soap, said that she hopes the scenes will give viewers “hope.”
She told The Sun:
“I was pleased to see it because I didn’t want to do as much harrowing birth [acting] and everything.
“It will hopefully it will have people smiling through their tears as well as being deeply upset by it – I hope.”
These scenes are expected to air next week.
