Amy Schumer said this was the hardest week for her.
Amy Schumer said this has been the hardest week of her life after her son was admitted to hospital with RSV.
The comedian has been working on SNL but had to leave rehearsals to be by her son's bedside.
She praised the doctors and nurses who have been caring for Gene.
"This was the hardest week of my life.
"I missed Thursday rehearsals when my son was rushed to ER and admitted for RSV."
Amy shared, "Shout out to all the parents going through this right now."
"I got to be with him the whole day at the hospital and the beautiful humans at @nbcsnl couldn’t have been more supportive.
"My son is home and better," Amy added.
She thanked the SNL team for their constant support during such an upsetting week.
"The reason this show is so fun to do isn’t actually the performance or the show itself. It’s getting to spend time with the people there.
"Thank you to everyone there and to the doctors and nurses who helped us."
Amy's son Gene is only 3-years-old.
RSV typically affects children of Gene's age and younger. It is incredibly common during the colder months, but cases have been rising rapidly over the past few weeks.
RSV is a common cause of infection in infancy. Nearly all children will suffer from it before the age of 2.
Symptoms include sniffles, a runny nose, and a fever.
However, some children will display severe symptoms such as persistent cough and breathing issues. Patients may also have blue lips or blue discolouration around the mouth and under the fingernails.
