Call the Midwife viewers were overwhelmed by the new episode
The latest season of Call the Midwife has viewers in floods of tears, but it’s undoubtedly the show’s strongest season to date.
Not only is it an emotional rollercoaster, but it’s also incredibly educational.
Viewers are learning more than ever before and the latest storyline involving Nurse Hyland is one of the most important.
In last night’s episode, Nurse Hyland encountered a horrible patient who refused to let her treat her.
The new mum left the maternity home early and slated Nurse Hyland for telling her what to do when the nurse was just trying to help her.
Upon returning home, the mum started to struggle and continued to decline Nurse Hyland’s help.
During a visit to her home, she yelled at the nurse and said she didn’t want her to treat her because of where she was from.
Viewers were heartbroken to see the beloved midwife face so much racial abuse.
Evil Racist 😈 both of them sadly its becoming more and more 😪

I feel for Joyce, who kept her integrity and composure 🙏 if it wasn't for Nurses and Doctors who come to Britain to work, we would be greatly lost without their hard work, care, and support! 💖#CallTheMidwife pic.twitter.com/lT8vGZNc9B
One said, “My mother was a district midwife in the 60s and 70s in the UK. She was Irish and had several West Indian pupil midwives with her. They both suffered terrible racism from some of their patients and their families. I truly hope times have changed I appreciate Call the Midwife showing it.”
One added, “Racism is so sinful, evil, and ugly and to this day, so pervasive. Justice for Joyce!”
Another wrote, “Sadly as awful as she is the storyline will help highlight racism which is still Sadly out there and growing with the darkness that’s come in the I think it showed Joyce beautifully with integrity and composure but a fight ahead.”
As heartbreaking as this storyline is, it proves just how important Call the Midwife is when it comes to highlighting issues still within our society.
Joyce’s storyline will also highlight how far we have to come with racism today and why we should always lead with empathy and not hatred.
