Jesy Nelson is pregnant with twins
Jesy Nelson recently revealed she was pregnant with twins, which may have stunned some of the singer’s fans.
Nelson had previously spoken out about her desire to be child-free, explaining that she never had a maternal feeling so becoming a mum was never something she considered.
In a 2021 interview with Glamour UK, the former Little Mix star said: “No I don’t want children. It’s just not in me. I think as a woman, [motherhood is] either in you or it isn’t.
She added, “You either have that maternal feeling or you don’t, and I’ve never had that feeling.”
Fast forward to nearly four years later and the singer is now pregnant with twins.
And she looks as happy as ever.
I was once like Nelson, minus the Brit awards and singing abilities, and fully believed I never wanted children.
Just last year I spoke about how being child-free was the right thing for me. I was often met with disappointment from my more traditional family members, saying that I’d regret it and that I was completely wrong in my opinion.
I believe, and always will believe, that being child-free is a very personal decision. It’s one that never should be frowned upon, judged, or dismissed. Let people live their one life in whatever way they choose, it’s the least we owe one another.
However, we also owe people grace if they change their minds.
Something about entering my 30s changed things for me.
I was aware that, realistically, this is the decade where my life may change the most.
I started to realise that becoming a mam is something I now wanted. Being a parent was a hope, a wish, and a dream instead of something I had written off.
It was now a potential part of my story that didn’t feel scary, but exciting.
Jesy Nelson opened up about what changed her mind about parenthood.
It’s certainly no easy decision to make, especially when you consider the current state of the world, but it’s a new decision I’ve accepted, and to be honest, I’m quite excited about it.
As Jesy Nelson said, women are allowed to change their minds as they grow.
Two simple things changed the singer’s perspective on motherhood, “life and love”.
Maybe it’s a part of growing up, maybe it’s entering my 30s, maybe it’s the joy of seeing my cousins with their incredible kids.
I don’t know exactly what changed my mind about having a kid but it’s a change I’m happy to accept.
It’s overwhelming and the most life-changing thing that’ll likely happen to me but it’s a milestone I can’t wait to reach.
I’m not sure when, or if I’ll even be lucky enough, it’ll happen, but it now feels like part of my future.
And like Jesy Nelson and many others who changed their minds about motherhood, I’m ready for that chapter, whenever it may be.
