The celebrity world got a little bigger this year
Over the last year, some of our favourite celebrities started or expanded their families and took their fans along on the journey by sharing their pregnancy announcements.
From global names like Kourtney Kardashian and Rihanna to some of Ireland’s favourite famous faces such as Carl Mullan and Anna Geary, the world got a little sweeter when they shared the happy news of their new arrivals.
As the year comes to a close, let’s take a look back at some of the loveliest celebrity announcements we saw over the last year.
Carl Mullan
In April, Carl Mullan shared the gorgeous news that he and his wife, Aisling, were growing their little family with an adorable snap of their dog Angie and son Daibhí with the ultrasound pictures of their second baby.
In a lengthy and touching post, the broadcaster expressed his love and pride towards his wife and the mother of his children.
“A bit of news friends…in the midst of all the madness of the last few months, we felt we needed a little more of it just for the craic. We’ve a new little brother/sister on the way for Daibhí and Angie this summer,” the 2FM star wrote.
“So you know how I said Ais was absolutely incredible the whole way through dancing with the stars? Holding down a full time job, keeping the house running and generally just looking after the entire family? Well she was doing it all whilst expecting as well. I couldn’t be prouder or more grateful to her.
“Becoming a parent alongside Ais has been the absolute adventure of a lifetime, and I’m so excited to get to do it all over again.”
In August, the couple welcomed a healthy daughter named Éala to their family, promoting Angie and Daibhí to a big brother and sister.
Kourtney Kardashian
Viewers of the ‘The Kardashians’ will have watched the eldest Kardashian sister undergo IVF while trying to conceive with her husband, Travis Barker.
Kourtney and her partner decided to halt the process but the ‘Poosh’ founder later fell pregnant with their first child together.
In a video post in June, the reality TV star shared that they were expecting by mirroring the Blink-182 music video, ‘All The Small Things’, by holding up a sign for her husband on stage that read ‘Travis I’m Pregnant’.
The couple welcomed their son, Rocky, in November, who joined a blended family of their combined six children between them.
Kourtney shares three children – Mason, 13, Penelope, 12, and Reign, 9 – with her ex-boyfriend, Scott Disick.
Barker is already a father to son Landon, 20, daughter Alabama, 17, and stepdaughter Atiana De La Hoya, 24, with his ex-wife Shanna Moakler.
Anna Geary
Irish TV personality, Anna Geary announced the beautiful news that she was welcoming her first child with her husband, Kevin Sexton, in February this year.
The athlete and former ‘Fittest Family’ host shared the announcement by placing a babygrow with the message ‘Togging out in 2023’ beside a hurley and rabbit teddy bear.
“A new teammate coming in 2023,” Anna captioned the post.
The couple welcomed their son, Ronan, in August.
The media personality has since gone on to be a place of refuge online for parents as she documents her journey through motherhood, newborn life, and postpartum.
Ciara
Ciara revealed her fourth pregnancy in August this year with a very on-brand slick video post where she showed off the silhouette of her baby bump.
“You look at me like that again, we make another kid… You my heart I’m your rib,” she captioned the announcement, which played over her track ‘How We Roll’ with Chris Brown.
Earlier this month, Ciara and her football quarterback husband, Russell Wilson, a daughter named Amora Princess.
The couple are already parents to Sienna Princess, 6, and Win Harrison, 3, and Ciara has a 9-year-old son, Future Zahir, with her ex-boyfriend Future, according to CNN.
Hilary Duff
One of our favourite former Disney stars shared her pregnancy news earlier this month that she is expecting her fourth child.
Hilary Duff took to Instagram earlier this month to deliver the announcement with the caption “Surprise Surprise!”
The card was embossed with the phrase ‘So much for silent nights’.
While on the reverse, the card reads, ‘Buckle up Buttercups! We’re adding one more to this crazy bunch!’
The actress is already mum to her son, Luca, 11, with her ex-husband Mike Comrie and two daughters, Banks, 5, and Mae, 2, with her husband, Matthew Koma.
Rihanna
In February, Rihanna stunned viewers of the Super Bowl by unveiling her baby bump on stage for the halftime show performance of ‘Diamonds’.
The singer confirmed she was expecting her second child with A$AP Rocky less than a year after the arrival of their firstborn child, a son named RZA Athelston Mayers, by sharing snaps from the cover of British Vogue.
The couple, who have been together since 2020, welcomed their second son, Riot Rose Mayers, in August.
While besotted by her two little boys, a source revealed to Us Weekly that she’s holding out hope of having a little girl one day.
“Rihanna adores her boys, but she’d still love to have a girl one day. She’s always wanted lots of kids, so that’s definitely something they discussed.”
Suki Waterhouse
Suki Waterhouse, much like Rihanna, made a jaw-dropping pregnancy reveal on stage.
During a performance at the Corona Capital Festival, the singer confirmed her she was expecting her first child with Robert Pattison to the crowd.
“I’m extra sparkly today because I thought it might distract you from something else that’s going on,” she told the audience before pointing to her stomach and opening her coat to reveal her baby bump.

The couple are usually very private about their relationship, although Suki previously shared some insights into her relationship with the Twilight actor during an interview with The Sunday Times.
“I’m shocked that I’m so happy with someone for nearly five years,” she revealed.
“I had two days off the other day, and it was like, no question I’m going back to see him. Then he’ll come out for a couple of days. I’m always incredibly excited when I see his name pop up [on my phone] or even a text, and I think he feels the same about me. We’ve always got so much to say, and I find him hilarious.”
Jess Redden
In February, Jess Redden shared a simple but beautiful post to share the news she was expecting her first child with former Ireland rugby player, Rob Kearney.
In pictures where she embraced her growing bump, the online personality captioned the announcement ‘We’ve been praying for you.’
The couple welcomed their baby, a son named Bobby Brian, in August.
