“There’s something I need to tell you. I’m Gonzorella.”
It is reassuring to know the younger generations are now growing up with progressive TV shows. The societal norms we grew up with and are slowly disappearing. Girls aren’t the only ones who can wear princess dresses and boys aren’t the only ones who like football. The days of gender stereotypes are fading into history.
One show helping this happen is Muppet Babies.
In a very special episode, that has been showered with praise online, Gonzo wears a dress.
In the episode, Gonzo reveals to his friends that he was a princess at their ball. “There’s something I need to tell you. I’m Gonzorella,” the character says in the now-famous episode.
In my eyes, the Muppets represent the ability to be accepting and loving of others, even if they may be a little different. To embrace those who others may shun.
I’m glad to see that philosophy is still going strong. pic.twitter.com/9mnKBdCsIT

When his friends asked why Gonzo felt the need to keep it a secret, he said: “You all expected me to look a certain way. I don’t want you to be upset with me.”
“I don’t want to do things just because that’s the way they’ve always been done, either. I want to be ME.”
His friends apologised and reassured him that he can be whoever he wants to be.
“It wasn’t very nice of us to tell you what to wear to our ball. You’re our friend and we love you any way you are.”
The message in this episode is bound to have a positive impact on younger viewers. If it even makes one child feel understood and seen then they’ve achieved something special.
