The series reportedly has the working title of 'Your Mum, My Dad'.
Love Island bosses are planning to launch a new version of the show especially for middle-aged parents looking for love.
The contestants will reportedly be in their 40s and 50s and will be matched up by their children while in the villa. The series has the working title of 'Your Mum, My Dad', and is due to begin filming later this year.
If all goes to plan, the series could hit television screens next year.
It comes as calls grow for the popular ITV2 show to feature more diverse body types and less of the perfect physiques that it has become known for.
A source told the
Sun: "Times change and the current generation in their 40s and 50s still care about how they look, are fit and healthy, into fashion and are ready to let their hair down.
“This show will give those who settled down young a second chance at love while they still feel in their prime."
They added that middle-aged contestants would "know their minds, will be capable of intelligent conversation and are likely to be much more adventurous — all ingredients regular Love Island sometimes lacks.”
This summer's series has come under fire for the behaviour of some of the boys in the villa, with the show receiving thousands of complaints in the last week.
There have also been claims of "misogyny" from some of the male cast as well as "sexism" over how their female counterparts have been treated during the show following the 'Mad Movies' segment earlier this week.
Luca Bish angered many viewers with the way he treated partner Gemma Owen after accusing her of flirting with another male contestant, and others slammed Italian housemate Davide Sanclimenti for repeatedly branding partner Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu a "liar" for her supposed behaviour both prior to and during the Movie Night special.
The scenes have led domestic abuse charity Women's Aid to voice their concerns to ITV about the show.
