Mrs Brown’s Boys star Fiona O’Carroll says being a single mum is a “struggle”

She is a mum to four sons.

Mrs. Brown’s Boys actress Fiona O’Carroll has opened up about being a single mum.

She split up with her husband and co-star Martin Delany last December.

They were married since 2006.

Speaking about being a single mum, the actress told Ireland AM that it hasn’t been easy.

But luckily she has had a lot of support.

She shared, “It’s been a struggle I have to say especially with the boys because they’re very much into a routine, you have to try and stick to it.

“I’ve been really lucky to have good au pairs over the years,” she added.

“Even during lockdown, I got a fabulous au pair called Franco,” the mum shared.

Fiona is a mum to 14-year-old Felix, 12-year-old Eli, 7-year-old Isaac, and 6-year-old Dexter.

She said many people are surprised when they hear she has a male au pair, but Fiona said he’s like a “big brother” to her boys.

“My ex-husband now lives in Portugal so I thought it’d be good for them to have a big brother influence in the house.”

“He has been absolutely amazing and now I have another au pair called Itor,” she said.

“Four kids as well is too much for one person,” the mum-of-four stressed.

“As a mother, you do it by yourself because you’re their mother and that’s what you do.

“But you could never go to work and expect one person to take on four kids, especially when it’s such a busy house and they all have their different things going on.

“You have to be really organised and lots of preparation beforehand.”

The Mrs. Brown’s Boys actress confirmed the end of her marriage to Martin Delany last year.

Fiona explained that they just “weren’t in the same place anymore”.
