"I just don't want her to ever think that I ever thought it was cool."
When it comes to our hopes for and expectations of our kids, there is a certain amount of "do as I say, not as I do" in parenting.
Scarlett Johansson may have a lifestyle most mothers can't relate to, but even she has certain things she hopes her kids will do differently to her.
During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show this week, the actress took part in "the Final 5" segment in which she was asked what she hopes her kids never find out about her.
"I'm supposed to say that?!" said the Sing star, who shares 7-year-old daughter Rose Dorothy with her ex Romain Dauriac and 7-month-old son Cosmo with her SNL star husband, Colin Jost.
Drew acknowledged that this question may defeat the purpose of keeping what Scarlett doesn't want her kids to know a secret, but the Black Widow actress took part anyway.
"My daughter may have asked me this before," she admitted. "I used to smoke when I was younger and I'm so ashamed. I just don't want her to ever think that I ever thought it was cool 'cause she can never, ever, ever smoke."
She went on to joke: "'Cause that's what you do. You forbid your kids from doing things and then they don't do them.
"So yeah, I just hope she never figures that out."
Well, let's hope Rose doesn't see this interview, then.
The Oscar nominee previously told InStyle that her daughter is at that very fun-for-parents age where she is curious about – and questioning – everything.
"'Why are you tweezing your eyebrows? Why are you curling your lashes? What's a tampon? What's it for?'" she imitated to the publication.
"She asked me why my underwear went up my butt crack, and I had to try to explain what a panty line was," she continued. "I was like, ''Cause you don't want a line in your pants,' and she was like 'Why?' And I was like, ''Cause then you could see my underwear,' and she was like 'But you are wearing underwear.' Like I know, it's weird."
