Father accidentally shoots and kills his own daughter during hunting trip

Melissa Carton

It is the 38th accidental fatal shooting of a child in Texas this year.

The community of Harrison County have been left in shock after an eleven-year-old girl was accidentally shot by her father during a hunting trip.

The young girl, whose identity is being kept private, was accidentally shot with a high-powered rifle over the weekend while out with her father.

Harrison County Sheriff’s Office say that when they arrived at the scene they found the young girl with life-threatening gunshot injuries.

An emergency care flight was requested but all helicopters in the region were grounded due to the poor weather conditions at the time.

The eleven-year-old was later transported to hospital by a medical crew, but despite the best efforts of the medical staff she was sadly pronounced dead.

Police and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department are currently investigating the case which they say is particularly heartbreaking given the young age of the victim.

Speaking on the tragic investigation Sheriff Brandon Fletcher told the host of the KMHT radio station;

“Anytime a young person loses their life, it’s tragic for all involved. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends during this difficult time.”

Unfortunately, this incident is not a standalone case for the police in Texas.

This year alone there has been 38 accidental fatal shootings involving young children.

Our thoughts are with the family involved at this incredibly difficult time.
