Four Irish food businesses were served closure orders in August due to safety breaches.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has said that four food stores in Meath, Louth, and Wexford were ordered to close last month after failing to meet safety standards.
Meath’s Pizza Point and O’Briens, Louth’s Riverview takeaway, and Wexford’s Lotus cafe were served the orders due to a risk to consumer health.
The reasons for the closures include failure to separate raw and cooked food, the mixed handling of raw kebab meat and raw chicken, no hot water, and failure to transport food in a suitable manner.
The details of the orders were:
- Riverview Takeaway, Unit B, Molloys Building, Merchants Quay, Drogheda, Louth. Issued August 8.
- Lotus, 70 South Main Street, Wexford. Issued August 24.
- O’Brien’s, Johnstown Village, Johnstown, Navan, Meath. Issued August 29 – Lifted August 30.
- Pizza Point, Main Street, Dunshaughlin, Meath. Issued August 31.
This comes after a “live rat” and “many flies” were among the reasons for 13 food business closures in July.
The findings were called “alarming” by the FSAI who said that the list shows that many food workers have had no basic training in food and hygiene management.
