A Belfast toddler who drowned in Spain has been laid to rest.

Last week, 19-month-old Freddie Joseph Briggs died in the pool at his parent’s home in Spain.

The family had recently moved from Northern Ireland to Spain.

They were living in Costa Blanca, near Benidorm before Freddie died.

He got into difficulty in their swimming pool and tragically died at their home.

Both neighbours and paramedics tried to rescue the young boy, but it was too late.

The young boy was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.

His heartbroken family paid tribute to the beloved toddler at his funeral this week.

His funeral service took place at St. Agne’s Church in Belfast on June 2nd.

Speaking at the service, his father said his son lived his short life to the full.

The parish priest also paid tribute to the young boy.

According to The Belfast Telegraph, he said: “Freddie knew he was loved and cherished.

“He was blessed to have such adoring and caring parents, as well as a big brother.

The toddler was “the heart” of the family.

There were teddy-bear-shaped floral arrangements and photos of Freddie included in the touching ceremony.

A fundraiser has been launched to support his family during this devastating time.

“Freddie Joseph Briggs who was very sadly taken away in a tragic accident from his parentsBriggsy and Jane on the 25th May.”

Over £10,000 has been raised for Freddie’s memorial service and for his family.
