Garda investigation underway after teen is killed in Mayo road accident

A Garda investigation is underway.

A teenage boy has sadly died following a road traffic collision in Neale, Co. Mayo.

The fatal accident occurred on the evening of Tuesday, March 21st.

The teenager was hit by a truck on the R345 just before 5pm yesterday.

He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has been taken to Mayo University Hospital.

A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

A Garda investigation is now underway following the harrowing incident.

Gardaí stated:

“The collision, which involved a truck and a pedestrian, occurred on the R345, The Neale to Cong road, shortly before 5 pm.

“The pedestrian, a male teenage juvenile, was fatally injured during the collision.

“The driver of the truck was uninjured,” Gardaí said.

“The R345 (The Neale to Cong) road is currently closed and the scene is subject to a forensic examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. The road will remain closed overnight. Local diversions are in place.

Witnesses urged to come forward.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward, especially those with dash cam footage.

Anyone who witnessed the fatal accident should contact Gardaí.

They have also called on anyone who was travelling on the R345, The Neale to Cong road at the time of the accident to come forward.
