Gardaí have launched an investigation after a body was found in a suitcase near the canal in Celbridge, Co Kildare.
The discovery was made at approximately 3.30pm on Saturday, after which the area was sealed off as a crime scene and preserved overnight.
According to RTÉ News, the State Pathologist and the Garda Forensic Bureau are due to arrive today.
Independent.ie reports that the area in which the container was found is close to where Gardaí searched for Barry Corcoran after he went missing last summer.
A statement from the authorities said: “Gardai in Leixlip are investigating the discovery of a body in a container, in the canal at Ardclough Village, Co. Kildare this afternoon, Saturday 16th January, 2016 at approximately 3.30p.m.
“The scene is currently preserved pending a technical examination and the body remains at the scene. The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified.”
