Gardaí warn against non-essential travel as Storm Frank makes landfall

Another week, another really terrible storm bashing against our shores. When, oh when, will it end?!

Homes across the country are hunkering down yet again as gale force winds of up to 120km per hour and heavy rains reach Ireland.

The Civil Defense have deployed soldiers to Athlone, Galway and Co. Clare to assist local authorities with those who are already experiencing flooding.

Here is a breakdown of all the regional weather warnings, as issued by Met Eireann:

STATUS ORANGE

Wind Warning for Wexford, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Waterford.

Southerly winds associated with Storm Frank, will reach mean speeds of 65 to 80 km/hr and will give gusts of 100 to 120 km/hour at times also. Winds will veer westerly in the morning. Winds will be strongest early tonight and again during the morning, in exposed hilly and coastal areas.

STATUS ORANGE

Rainfall Warning for Wicklow, Galway, Cork, Kerry, Kilkenny, Wexford and Waterford
Rainfall totals of 40 to 70 mm over 24 hours between Tuesday midday and Wednesday midday.

STATUS YELLOW

Wind Warning for Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, Meath, Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon, Limerick and Tipperary
Southerly winds will reach speeds of 50 to 65 km/hour with gusts of 90 to 110 km/hr. Winds will be strongest in exposed hilly and coastal areas.

STATUS YELLOW

Rainfall Warning for Donegal, Monaghan, Cavan, Sligo, Roscommon, Mayo, Leitrim, Clare, Limerick, Tipperary and all Leinster except Wicklow, Kilkenny and Wexford.

Rainfall totals of 25 to 40 mm over 24 hours between Tuesday midday and Wednesday midday.
