Gavin Glynn Foundation launch new campaign to fundraise for childhood cancer

Denise Curtin

Today marks the launch of a nationwide campaign by the Gavin Glynn Foundation.

The Gavin Glynn Foundation was set up after a little boy by the name of Gavin was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer at 18-months-old. John and Jayne vowed to never give up hope and help Gavin fight for his life.  That hope extended the length and breadth of the northern hemisphere as Gavin’s parents endured an emotional, financial and physical marathon to put a stop to their son’s illness.

Unfortunately Gavin passed away in 2014 aged four but since then, The Gavin Glynn Foundation exists to facilitate others on the same journey. It goes to the ends of the earth to keep hope alive by facilitating other families in Ireland with the tools they need to seek international healthcare services.

And now, they are looking for your help. The foundation receives no government funding and therefore relies heavily on the donations of others to help them continue to do what they do. Therefore, the foundation is asking you to strike your best superhero pose using #ToTheEndsOfTheEarth on social media, nominate two friends to showcase their superhero pose, and text TEAMGAVIN to 50300 and donate €2. It is just that easy.

Your donations go a long way and so far, the Gavin Glynn Foundation has helped organise and cover the cost of 610 hotels stays, 390 flights, 564 car transfers and 22 apartment rentals – but with approximately 220 newly diagnosed cases of childhood cancer every year in Ireland, which is roughly four new children each week and up to 18 of these children needing to travel overseas every year for specialist cancer treatment, the Gavin Glynn Foundation needs all the help it can get to keep helping families seek international healthcare services like second opinions as well as taking care of logistics and finances associated with traveling to another country for specialist cancer treatment.

John Glynn, Founder of The Gavin Glynn Foundation, said:

“It’s our job in Gavin’s memory to go to the ends of the earth for all of the kids fighting rare forms of cancer everyday in Ireland. The Gavin Glynn Foundation currently receives no government funding and we vitally need funds that will go directly to helping the families and their kids. We will fight for them, we will go to the ends of the earth to make sure no family has to endure what we went through with Gavin. Join is in making this happen, share your story and tag your friends. Together we can make a difference!’’
