Ellen Fitzpatrick

You’ve been warned…

As Europe gets hit with its biggest heatwave of the year so far, little old Ireland is set for a weekend of wet and rainy conditions.

A Status Yellow weather warning has been issued for the entire country as heavy rain is expected to bring localised flooding, poor visibility, and dangerous travelling conditions.

The warning is currently in place until 7pm tonight.

Met Eireann said: “Spells of heavy rain [expected] on Friday. Blustery at times also, especially on the south and east coasts.”

A second rain warning has been issued in Donegal and is valid from 12pm today until midnight on Saturday.

Today is set to be wet and blustery with bands of heavy rain that will become widespread this morning.

By this afternoon, the rain is set to clear up slightly but isolated, heavy showers will still linger and become thundery at times. The highest temperatures are between 13 and 19 degrees.

Saturday will also see a blustery day with widespread showers which will be heavy at time, with highest temperatures between 15 to 19 degrees.

When it comes to Sunday, Met Eireann said: “Staying wet and rather windy as showers continue to feed in across the country. Some of the showers will be heavy and thundery during the afternoon and evening. Staying windy too with moderate to fresh westerlies and highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees.”
