Imagine if your mattress adjusted to your body temperature before your head hit the pillow. What if it set your alarm and switched off the lights after you nodded off?
A San Francisco start-up has received Kickstarter funding to make this kind of five-star mattress service a reality for everyday Joes like you and me.
In fact, the Luna, an intelligent, machine-washable mattress cover is in the final engineering stages and is now available for pre-order (€178) with the first delivery expected in August, 2015.
Here are three of the Luna’s coolest features:
- While you sleep, Luna adjusts the temperature inside your bed for optimal comfort. It can even create two different temperature on either side of a double bed to accommodate different preferences.
- Luna also tracks your sleep quality, charting your sleep phases, heart rate and breathing so you can get a clear picture of how you’re sleeping each night without wearing any kind of device.
- Using wifi and a handy app, it can even combine this with information gleaned from other connected devices during the day (your phone, for instance) to create a clear picture of your health.
As if that wasn’t enough, the Luna has the ability to make a smart home even more futuristic; when it senses you are asleep, it can send a message to to your security system to lock all your doors, turn off all lights and set the alarm. Even the morning wake-up call is a gentler experience; Luna recognises when you’re in a lighter phase of sleep and begins to gradually wake you at that stage so there’s no jolt into consciousness. When you do head down the stairs, Luna will have alerted your coffee machine so a fresh cup of java will be waiting.
