Help find Monkey: One dad’s online appeal for help really touched us

Guilt-ridden dad, Sebastian, vows to run Dublin marathon in aid of Nepal relief fund in exchange for return of his son's backpack

Sebastian Hamilton is a guilt-ridden father who has vowed to run the Dublin marathon in exchange for the safe return of his son Matthew’s backpack and his favourite cuddly pal, Monkey.

He has launched a social media campaign seeking anyone who may remember seeing the backpack in Dublin Airport yesterday.

“I managed to lose my 4-year-old son’s Thomas the Tank Engine backpack. Inside are all his favourite trains; two of his dinosaurs; his Thomas headphones; and the tractor and trailer he just got from his cousins. Most important of all, though, is the little stuffed monkey who’s always at his side and who cuddles him to sleep every night.”

After hours of searching yesterday the family admitted defeat and Matthew, a complete trooper in our opinion, even told his dad, after giving him a big hug, not to feel bad. According to Sebastian’s Facebook, Matthew said: “that he’s very sad – but that he forgives Daddy for losing his bag.”

Sebastian cannot forgive himself, however, and has vowed to run the Dublin marathon in October if the bag is found and returned:

“In recognition of the fact that there are far more serious things happening in the world, if we find his Thomas bag and reunite Matthew with Monkey, I’ll run this October’s Dublin marathon to raise money for the Nepal earthquake relief fund.”

Comments have poured but so far there is no sign of the backpack or Monkey.

Matthew’s mum Nicole wrote:

“I’ve been praying to St Anthony since it happened! What annoys me most is that someone would be mean enough to just take a little child’s bag but as Seb says there are much more important things going on in the world today, so onwards and upwards…..it’s just the parental guilt!! Which they don’t prepare you for in the anti natal classes!! Xx”

If you have any information about Matthew’s backpack please make contact with the family here. Good Luck Seb, Nicole and Matthew.
