“Help Molly get back on her feet” campaign aims to raise 20k for sick teen

Melissa Carton

The family of a severely ill teenager are attempting to raise €20,000 for her medical expenses.

Molly, a student at Scoil Mhuire Ennistymon, contracted Influenza B in February of this year. It was soon revealed that she had MSSA severe Sepsis, which is an adverse effect of the flu that approximately 1 in 250,000 people can develop.

As a result, in a matter of hours, Molly had multiple organ failure and was put into an induced coma for 19 days.

Her family now need to raise the funds to cover her rehabilitation and have appealed to the general public to help support what seems like an impossible feat.

Before her illness, Molly had been a dancer but now she depends on a walker and wheelchair as her lungs have been badly damaged, but still, she continues to fight to return to the life she had before she contracted Influenza B.

Molly’s family have said that they aim to raise 20k but if her treatments turn out to cost less they will donate the remaining funds to the BUMBLEance service.

Currently, Molly and her family have raised €7,780 but they still have a long way to go and if you would like to help you can visit their GoFundMe page and help get Molly back on her feet.
