It can be a bottomless drain for your cash.

How much do you spend getting from A to B per year year?

According to a new survey from the AA, the cost of running a family car each year in Ireland is €10,671.

That’s slightly less than last year’s figure of €10,849, a reduction of €178.

While fuel costs continue to rise, the AA is crediting lower car insurance premiums for the reduction.

“Rising motor insurance premiums have been the main issue faced by motorists for over two years no,” said Conor Faughnah of the AA.

“While it appears some progress is being made in this space, in order for the trend to continue into the future and for motorists to ultimately start seeing their premiums drop it’s important that government continues to give this issue the attention it deserves.”

The AA recommended that people shop around and look at adding a partner to their insurance to get the best value for money.
