“Holly made it clear it was her or Phil”

Holly Willoughby reportedly gave ITV an ultimatum before Phillip Schofield quit This Morning.

A new report has revealed that Holly told producers to choose between her or Phillip after the pair’s friendship soured in recent months.

A source told The Times, “Holly made it clear it was her or Phil but he refused to go until he was given something else concrete that he could announce.”

Schofield’s shocking exit from the show was announced over the weekend. The broadcaster left This Morning with immediate effect on Saturday, May 20th.

In a statement, Schofield said he is leaving because he wanted to protect the show he loves.

“I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story,” he said.

Schofield continued, “Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind.

“I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on.

“I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love,” he added.

“So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning’s amazing viewers – and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month,” he added.

Holly Willoughby presented This Morning alongside Schofield for 14 years. She said the show won’t be the same without him.
