Icelandic officials are urging parents to vaccinate amid measles outbreak

Authorities in Iceland are asking parents to make sure that their children are vaccinated.

This comes as the country finds itself among the many countries experiencing a measles outbreak. Several cases of the infection have been discovered in both adults and children.

Officials are encouraging anyone who has not received their full immunisations to do so immediately.

Officials in Iceland have said that this is the worst measles outbreak that the country has seen in decades.

According to the Icelandic Monitor, it is believed, but not confirmed, that the virus entered into the country via a person that came to Iceland from the Philippines in February on an Icelandair flight.

Doctors in Iceland have asked that anyone who feels that they or their child may have the illness to stay at home and call their local health centre. They have stressed for those feeling ill not to leave their house as it may cause the virus to spread.

Ireland recently experienced its own outbreak and if you suspect your child of having measles you should contact your doctor immediately.

Symptoms of measles include a high temperature, cold-like symptoms, redness or swelling of the eyes and or a rash.
