Last month Irish Rail announced the introduction of “baby on board” badges for pregnant women on a trail basis.
Over 400 badges have so far been given out during this trail in a hope to make it easier for pregnant women travelling on the trains.
The badges main purpose is to flag the attention of other customers that the person wearing the badge is an expectant mum and has a good reason to need a seat.
And now, Irish Rail corporate communications manager, Barry Kenny told Newstalk Breakfast that “the initial response has been positive.”
He continued by saying: “We have busy trains and if you’re travelling anywhere in the world, there are going to be people sitting and some people standing but some people need seats more than others.”
“In the case of expectant mothers, sometimes it’s not clear to people sitting down. We have had some considerate fathers getting the badges for their partners.”
