Heartbreaking news.
Tributes have been paid for an Irishman who died in a freak accident while skiing.
Aidan Bergin, who was 29 and from Waterford, was holidaying in Bulgaria when he fell almost 2,000ft while taking a picture of the scenery.
The man was part of a group who had been visiting the skiing hotspot.
Aidan is said to have lost his balance and fell.
He was found by a mountain rescue team and taken to hospital in a serious condition. Despite efforts to revive him, he sadly died the following day.
His death notice reads: “Aidan passed away on January 29, 2025 as a result of a tragic accident. Deeply missed by Niall, his parents Joe and Máire, brothers Patrick and Eoghan, sister Niamh and her fiancé David, aunts, uncles, cousins and his many, many friends both at home and abroad.
“Aidan, taken so suddenly from us, will live in our hearts forever.”
Paying tribute to Aidan, one person wrote: “My sincerest condolences to Niall, Aidans family and friends. I have such fond memories of Aidan from Grenoble to Brussels and everywhere inbetween.
“He was the kindest soul, had a beautiful smile and such a positive, fun outlook on life. I will cherish the memories we have and keep all those who love him in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.”
Another wrote: “Aidan will always be remembered for his bright smile and caring nature. I remember our time in school together fondly although we weren’t close, I always enjoyed his company. The world is a sadder place with his loss.”
A third commented: “I am so desperately sorry to hear of Aidan’s far-too-untimely passing.. He was such a lovely person and I am glad to have known him.. My deepest sympathies.”
