Is this the hospital bed that EVERY maternity ward needs?

Sophie White

The first night that I spent in hospital after having my baby I slept with my son on my chest. In a high narrow hospital bed, this may sound a bit dodgy but I just didn’t want to let him go.

I’d had a c-section and missed those precious first hours of bonding and skin-to-skin. Because of the surgery I couldn’t get out of bed to pick him up when he cried, so it just seemed better to keep him with me. I often think about that first night with him and how surreal it was meeting him. I just couldn’t stop staring at him, and I couldn’t get my head around the fact that he was no longer in my belly.

So this week when I spotted this ultra modern, maternity bed on the Facebook of an Australian website, all I could think was what a brilliant idea. The bed has gone down well with over 200,000 likes and more than 10,000 comments on the Facebook post with many wishing the co-sleeping friendly beds were available in all hospitals.

Would you prefer this kind of bed in Irish maternity wards?
