John Legend wants nappy changing tables to be installed in men’s bathrooms

He’s tired of “improvising.”

John Legend has opened up about sharing parent duties, and says that men should have just as many resources as women do.

In today’s world, there are so many different variations of a family, and he told USA Today that he was mainly raised by his father growing up.

“The idea that only women are raising kids is antiquated and really should be in the past because there are so many different arrangements and so many different careers that parents have these days,” he said.

John is father to two children, Luna, 3-years-old and Miles, 1-year-old. In the interview, he said that on numerous occasions he has had to improvise changing their nappies as there has been no access to changing tables that he can use in public.

He said that having to change his children’s nappies on his lap or in small airport toilets turned into a “conversation about dads being involved in all kinds of ways as parents, and encouraging that, celebrating that and making sure there are facilities out there for men to do that.

“One way or the other, you just have to make it work and I think so many parents, moms and dads, have been kind of improvising over the years.

“Even when there weren’t proper facilities, they just make it happen, but how about we make it more convenient and possible for both parents to share in those responsibilities?”

He has now themed up with Pampers and Koala Kare to campaign to install 5,000 nappy changing facilities in men’s toilets around the US and Canada by 2021.

Let’s just hope this sort of movement reaches Ireland in the near future.
