According to the Mirror, convicted child killer, Ian Huntley would like to apologise to the parents of his victims.
Huntley is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in Soham, Cambridgeshire in 2003.
The newspaper reported that Huntley, a former school caretaker told another prisoner: "I lost control of my mind. I would like to explain to them what I did. I wish I hadn’t done it."
Another former inmate and confidante of Huntley's told the paper:
"Huntley told me, ‘I’m genuinely sorry for what I’ve done.' He said, ‘If I was given the opportunity to apologise and explain what I did to their parents I would.'"
This is the first time that Huntley has displayed any remorse for his horrific crime.
However, contrary to his apparent regret and remorse, it has been reported that in a macabre move Huntley wears a Manchester United jersey similar to that worn by his victims in a widely circulated photograph of the girls.
Huntley has apparently ignored requests from prison officials to stop wearing the top.
Huntley's expressions of remorse are in stark contrast to previous reports by psychiatrists who reviewed Huntley's case and even the killer's own brother who stated in the past that the 42-year-old showed no remorse for his actions.
