Late Late viewers were loving Sinead O’Connor’s ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ performance last night

Absolutely breathtaking.

Last night, Sinead O’Connor appeared on The Late Late Show.

The singer chatted to Ryan Tubridy at length about her break from the music business, the need to focus on herself for a while, and why her artistry means so much to her.

She also discussed her recent reverting to Islam, explaining how the shift in faith came about.

“The word revert refers to the idea that if you were to study the Quran you would realise that you were a Muslim all your life and you just didn’t know it,” she said.

“I’m 52 and I grew up in a very different Ireland to the one that exists now. It was a very oppressed country, religiously speaking, and everybody was miserable. Nobody was getting any joy in God.

“Then when I read chapter two alone of the Quran I realised, oh my God, I’m home.”

Following this, O’Connor graced The Late Late audience with two performances – her rendition of Prince’s ‘Nothing Compares 2 U,’ and The Pogues ‘Rainy Night in Soho.’

Both were stellar performances, and testament to why her upcoming Vicar Street gigs have entirely sold out, but it was the Prince cover that really got to viewers across the country.

Naturally, they were only blown away by her unmistakable talent – and delighted to see her performing again.
