Leaving Cert students may be waiting longer for their exam results this year

Melissa Carton

Bad news for Leaving Cert students.

While awaiting your Leaving Cert results is always a little nerve wrecking, this year may be an even more anxious time for students.

According to Higher Education representatives there may be a delay in those that sat the Leaving Cert actually receiving their results.

Higher Education representatives have apparently been told that these delays are due to logistical challenges that have to be overcome.

These exam result delays will include students sitting exam deferrals due to various reasons, such as the Covid-19 pandemic.

There are now fears that delays in students receiving their results will have an knock-on effect for students due to start college in the autumn.

Higher education sources have expressed concern that a delay will result in later CAO offers, which could force them to push back the start of the new academic year for first-year students.

This in turn could cause other issues for students, including difficulties finding suitable accommodation before the start of the college term.

The delay in results may also cause disruptions for students wishing to study abroad next year.

This year’s Leaving Cert exams are due to get underway on the 8th of June and finish on the 28th of June.
