Here are all the dates for the Irish bank holidays in 2019

Olivia Hayes

You can’t beat that sweet 3-day weekend.

There are a total of nine bank holidays in Ireland every year – and one has already passed.

New Years Day counts as one, and it will be March until we see another one. But get the dates into your diaries now because if you’re lucky enough, you might be able to double your annual leave days for the year.

Here are all the bank holidays in Ireland in 2019:

  • New Year’s Day – Tuesday January 1
  • St Patrick’s Day – Sunday March 17
  • Easter Monday – Monday April 22
  • May public holiday – Monday May 6
  • June public holiday – Monday June 3
  • August public holiday – Monday August 5
  • October public holiday – Monday October 28
  • Christmas Day – Wednesday December 25
  • St Stephen’s Day – Thursday December 26

So, if you want to get some extra time off, the trick works because Easter is a little late next year, falling towards the end of April, while the May Bank Holiday is early – which means we’re going to be getting two long weekends close together.

Basically, the trick means that if you book your days off around these long weekends, you can just about double your holiday time.

The crucial dates to book off are April 23, 24, 25, 26, 29, and 30; as well as May 1, 2, and 3. That’s over two weeks thanks to those beautiful bank holidays, using just nine days of annual leave. We have a funny feeling that Easter holiday requests are about to get very popular.
