Your little Bernard Brogan wannabes can now tour Croker

Alison Bough

Attention all GA-MAs and weekend early risers! The GAA Museum at Croke Park are launching a new behind-the-scenes tour for young fans on Saturday mornings.

If you can manage to get away from the GA-MA joy of driving your aspiring Henry Shefflins and Sinead Goldricks to various blitzes around the country, then this weekend activity is made for you.

The GAA Museum at Croke Park have launched a new junior explorer tour for young families that will run from February 25th until the 29th of April.

Kids will be greeted by the museum’s mascot, Cluasóg the Irish hare, before a behind-the-scenes look at the famous stadium. The tour includes a visit to the team dressing rooms and warm-up areas and a run out pitchside through the players’ tunnel. What club or county parent hasn’t dreamt of that moment?

But back to the kids…ahem…young visitors will also receive an ‘explorer passport’ so they can follow clues through the stadium’s museum with their tour guide and catch a look at the original Sam Maguire and Liam MacCarthy cups along the way.

My own three GAA-obssessed children are particularly fond of testing their hurling and football skills in the museum’s interactive games zone, where certain daddies have been known to spend far too much time practicing a fingertip save.

The tour, which is being aimed at the under eights and will last approximately 1.5 hours, will depart from the GAA museum on February 25th at 10.30 and will continue every Saturday morning until April 29th. Both the museum and stadium tour have made Trip Advisor’s top five things to do in Dublin list AND there is free parking but tell Himself not to hog the games zone for ‘training’ purposes…
