Another Irish Rail strike could be on the cards very soon

The Workplace Relations Commission to step in

Unions have asked the Workplace Relations Commission to step in.

It looks like another Irish Rail strike could soon be on the way.

This time, the driver’s union is accusing the company of changing training procedures.

At the moment, experienced drivers train new recruits on a voluntary basis, however the union is claiming that the company’s decision to make changes to training is an “unprecedented attack on industrial relations.”

And so, the National Bus and Rail Union will ballot all train and DART drivers for industrial action.

The drivers voting in the upcoming ballot will have to reach a majority decision on strike action, however the unions have written to the Workplace Relations Commission to request an immediate intervention.

This follows an abundance of travel chaos throughout the city.

Dublin Bus has already reduced the number of services by 20 percent, and now with longer Luas trams being introduced throughout the next two weeks, the bus company will have to further reduce its buses going through College Green.

According to 98fm, the National Transport Authority will meet today to discuss the future of transport travelling through the city.
