“Thoughtless”
Actress Maisie Smith (21) and The Wanted singer, Max George (34) have outraged fans after they appeared to announce a fake pregnancy.
The couple have been inseparable since they met on Strictly Come Dancing last year. They’ve been spending their time together in beautiful holiday destinations all around the world.
The pair have been under fire before because of their 13-year age gap but they’ve since explained that they never even think about.
Yesterday, the couple posted a photo to Instagram with a large heart emoji covering what looked like Maisie cradling a pregnancy bump. Max was beside her looking on in awe.
They captioned it: “We’ve got some really exciting news.”
Of course, people thought they pair were expecting their first baby and were almost confused by the post but when it was revealed to be a hoax, fans weren’t happy.
In the next picture posted on their story the heart emoji over Maisie’s ‘bump’ was replaced with the words: “I just had the best 5 course meal of my life.”
The posts seemed to really hurt some fans with many of them calling the pregnancy joke “thoughtless”.
One woman took to Twitter to share her opinion and tagged the pair.
She said they “don’t think this is something either of you should be joking about.”
Another fan said they were currently experiencing pregnancy loss and found it difficult to see the couple “joke about being pregnant”.
Others seemed taken a back by it.
One follower asked: “What on earth is Maisie Smith’s Instagram story? Pregnancy jokes are not and never will be amusing.”
This fan had a lot of support in what she said about the situation.
She said: “Pregnancy jokes are not, and never will be funny.
“You’ve hurt many people, fans, with those thoughtless stories tonight. People who have lost children. People who cannot conceive for whatever reason. Please do better.”
The couple haven’t addressed the backlash.
