Mattel apologises for putting X-rated URL on Ariana Grande Wicked dolls

Charlie Herbert

Mattel has said it ‘deeply regrets’ the error

Mattel has apologised for an X-rated gaffe on some of its merchandise for the upcoming Wicked film.

One of the most-eagerly anticipated films of the year, the adaptation of the hit stage musical stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo as the two main characters, while also featuring Jeff Goldblum as The Wizard.

Ahead of its released on November 22, merchandise for the film has been hitting stores, including dolls of Grande’s character Glinda.

However, customers have noticed that this particular piece of merch features pretty much the last thing you’d want on a product intended for kids.

On the side of the box was the name of a website: www.Wicked.com.

Most people would assume this leads to a website all about the film, but it turns out it doesn’t take you anywhere like that.

This is because the web address was already taken – by a porn site.

Upon searching this URL, people have been shocked to find themselves taken to a site for adult content, describing itself as a place for “cinematic and parody porn movies”.

The actual website name for the Wicked film is www.wickedmovie.com.

Now, Mattel, who manufactured the doll featuring the gaffe, has apologised for the error.

A representative for the company told TMZ they are aware of the misprint which was made primarily on dolls sold in the US.

They said they “deeply regret” the error and are taking action to ensure no future dolls feature the incorrect URL on their packaging.

Mattel advises any parents who have purchased the doll to discard of the packaging or block out the link on the box.
