Matthew Perry will offer a “behind the scenes” look at Friends in new book

The actor will document his time on the show as well as his struggles with addiction.

Matthew Perry has revealed that he is writing an "unflinchingly honest" memoir exploring his struggle with addiction during the time of filming of Friends. According to publishing company, Flatiron Books, the book will offer a "behind-the-scenes look" at the famous sitcom. Matthew, who played Chandler Bing in the show, will explore his past issues with alcohol abuse and drug addiction in the '90s. According to the publisher, the memoir, which is yet to be titled, is "the book that Friends fans have been waiting for but will also shed a powerful light for anyone who is in their own battle for themselves or a loved one." "We need humour, we need catharsis, and we need to agree on something - and Matthew's extraordinary story, told in his inimitable voice, is that thing," said Flatron's Megan Lynch. "Matthew’s book has unrivalled potential to bring people together, which feels especially galvanising right now, a time of isolation and division." The actor was one of the most famous and highest paid television stars during the 10-year run of Friends from 1994 to 2004 but battled with addiction behind closed doors. Fans began to speculate about potential drug problems when his appearance on the show drastically changed and his weight fluctuated. Matthew previously told the BBC that his substance abuse problems were so bad he struggled to remember three full years of filming the show, from season three to season six. "I don’t remember three years of it. So none of those, somewhere between season three and six... a little bit of the time, I was a little out of it, yeah." he said. Matthew joined his former co-stars for the highly anticipated Friends reunion special earlier this year. The book is set to be released in some time in Autumn 2022.
