They’re planning on walking 260km

Two teens from Dublin are taking on the ultimate walking challenge for the most worthy cause. Scott Ward and Derek O Brien are walking from Coolock to the Cliffs of Moher in Clare to raise money for ABACAS Kilbarrack Special School.

The school, which is for children with Autism, holds a very special place in Scott’s heart.

Speaking of the inspiration behind the walk, he shared: “While doing this we will be raising money for ABACAS which is a wonderful school that does amazing work with a lot of kids, my cousin Lucas included.”

Derek also has a cousin in the school and said donations will help fund facilities for children with sensory needs.

They told FM104: “There’s no better way to do it than to raise some money for charity. Both of our cousins go to the school, so there’s no other charity to do it for.”

The boys have been posting updates of the 260km walk and are making great progress already.

Thankfully the weather has been on its best behaviour since they left Coolock on Sunday. Their latest goal is to reach Portumna and they’ve got 19km to go until they reach their destination.

They have called on the public to donate if they can, “We appreciate any donations made as it is going towards a great cause and it will help so many kids in school.”

Scott and Derek have already raised over €20,000 for the school.
