Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were in Dublin yesterday, in case you weren’t aware.

During their jam packed 24 hours in the Irish capital, the pair did a lot of different things including meeting President Michael D Higgins, seeing the famine memorial, and taking a tour of Croke Park.

During that time, the newly appointed Duke and Duchess of Sussex also met a lot of children who are currently learning computer programming skills from volunteers.

Meghan and Harry took a walk around the CoderDojo and Dogpatch Labs in Dublin’s CHQ yesterday afternoon to meet the young boys and girls being taught how to programme.

Giustina Mizzoni, Executive Director of CoderDojo said that the programme exists to get more young girls interested in coding.

She said:

“Increasing the number of female role models is one of the most effective ways to increase the participation of girls in CoderDojo.

“We are calling on women from all walks of life to get involved in inspiring and supporting the next generation of female tech creators and entrepreneurs.”

The couple also took part in a diversity roundtable discussion focusing on empowering and investing in women and girls in the technology sector.

Liz McCarthy, Head of Diversity & Inclusion at Dogpatch Labs, said:

“The fact that influential figures like The Duchess of Sussex are engaging in the topic of women in tech can really help elevate the conversation.

“Further, having The Duke of Sussex at the table sends a strong signal that men can play a valuable role in amplifying women’s voices.”

Following this, the Duke and Duchess listened to some music performed by the Liber8 Music Project.

The programme includes children between the ages of 14 and 16 from in and around the Liberties, and provides them with skills and experience in music.
