Met Éireann say the country could be hit with spot flooding tonight

Be careful out there.

It looks like the weather is going to take a turn for the worst tonight as Met Éireann says there's going to be flooding around the country as well as sleet and snow across "Ulster and perhaps across Northern parts of Connacht." The weather forecaster tweeted moments ago, saying that heavy rain will cover the country tonight. "Rain will become widespread across the country this evening and tonight with heavy falls leading to spot flooding. The rain will turn to sleet and snow across Ulster and perhaps across Northern parts of Connacht with some accumulations of snow (mainly across Donegal).

Strong southwesterly winds will pick up again overnight, but it will be calmer in the north. A large contrast in temperatures with lows of 0 to 2 degrees Celsius in northern counties, versus 7 or 8 degrees Celsius in the south.

Meanwhile, a status yellow rainfall warning was issued this morning for Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo, Longford, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Monaghan, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Tipperary. It will come into effect at 9pm on Friday, March 15 until noon on Saturday, March 16.
