Met Éireann issues status orange snow-ice warning

You might have been dreaming of a white Christmas and that didn’t happen but it seems we could see some of the white stuff falling this week.

Met Éireann has issued a status orange snow-ice warning for Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo with accumulations between 4 and 8cm expected between midnight tonight and midnight on Thursday.

As always, areas of higher ground are the most likely to be affected (but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t wrap up warm).

There is also a status yellow snow-ice warning in place covering Cavan, Galway, Longford, Monaghan and Roscommon with between 2 and 4cm expected during the same period.

Overall, tonight will be very cold with a risk of frost and icy patches. Temperatures will be as low as -2 degrees Celsius in places.

The cold conditions will continue tomorrow with a mixture of sunny spells and wintry showers. Highest temperatures will be somewhere between 3 and 6 degrees Celsius.

As the day progresses, showers will continue in the west and north with sleet and snow falling on higher ground.

Friday will be much of the same as the forecaster is expecting it to be cold with scattered showers and a risk of frost.
