Met Éireann predict that we’re going to see snow in parts of the country later today

It's going to snow, lads!

If you were looking forward to a white winter then it seems like we might have it. Met Éireann predicted snowfall last week and some were disappointed when it didn't happen; but the weather forecaster said today that we might experience a bit later this evening. While it will start out dry, rain is predicted to fall in many areas, and snow will then drop in Munster and Leinster. "Mainly dry in the east at first today with a few bright spells. Showers in the west will merge to a more persistent spell of heavy rain this morning, with a risk of hail and thunder, with the rain spreading to most areas later today. Top temperatures 4 to 8 degrees. "Some of the rain will turn to sleet and snow in Munster and Leinster, mainly later this afternoon and evening. Brisk northwest winds will develop in the southwest later today, but winds will be lighter and more variable elsewhere."

Rain, sleet and snow are also predicted for tonight, with temperatures dropping to 0 degrees. "Outbreaks of rain, sleet and hill snow will gradually clear southwards tonight, and cold clear spells will develop, with frost and the risk of icy patches developing before dawn. "Lowest temperatures of 0 to plus 2 degrees. Light to moderate northerly winds developing over land will be fresh to strong and gusty near coasts."
