Met Éireann has just issued a status orange weather warning for parts of the country

In fairness, it's fierce windy out.

Storm Erik is here, and it has resulted in rain, gale force winds and a number of weather warnings. The latest is a status orange weather warning, which has been issued by Met Éireann. This warning reads: "Status Orange - Wind warning for Donegal." "Southwest to west winds will reach mean speeds of 65 to 80 km/h with some severe or damaging gusts of 110 to 130 km/h. "The highest winds will be in exposed coastal areas, where these values may be exceeded at times. Very high seas as well with some coastal flooding."

Valid: Friday 08 February 2019 09:00 to Saturday 09 February 2019 06:00."

The rest of the country is under a status yellow warning, which reads: "Status Yellow - Wind warning for Ireland." "Southwest to west winds will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65 km/h with gusts of 80 to 110 km/h. Along exposed Atlantic coasts these values may be exceeded for a while and with very high seas this will give the risk of coastal flooding."

There's also an orange warning in place for the marine, as a result of high winds. "West to southwest gales or strong gales will continue today and tonight on all Irish coastal waters and on the Irish Sea with storm force 10 at times from Loop Head to Erris Head to Fair Head." Be safe out there!
