Met Éireann weather forecast shows hailstones and heavy showers

Protect yourselves.

While being caught in the rain is never nice, having hailstones drop down on you is an absolute disaster. They don’t seem as wet as first but they melt and soak into your clothing within a few seconds – nevermind the fact that they hurt a little too.

Well, Met Éireann has warned that hailstones could be on the way today and it appears to be another wet one.

The weather forecaster said: “Cool and showery today, Monday, with occasional sunny breaks. Mainly dry to begin in north Leinster and east Ulster this morning, but scattered showers affecting western and southern counties will become more widespread this afternoon and evening.

“Some of the showers will be heavy and thundery with a risk of hail. Moderate southerly breezes, fresh at times along coasts will veer southwest later in the day. Highs of 9 to 12 degrees.”

Meanwhile tonight we’ll see: “Showers persisting in many areas early tonight, but the showers will become increasingly isolated overnight allowing long clear periods to develop. Light to moderate southwesterly breezes, will back southerly by morning. Lows of 2 to 6 degrees Celsius with isolated mist patches and some grass frost in places.”
