Melissa Carton

A terrifying ordeal for the midwife involved.

A young midwife was held up at knifepoint at The Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital in Dublin.

The incident occurred on Thursday at 2 am when a man entered the restricted staff section and attempted to rob the woman.

According to Independent.ie, the man, who was wearing a blue and red Adidas hoody, entered the staff room and tried to flee with the young midwife’s belongings.

When she walked in on him and attempted to take back her bag he pulled out a knife and held it to her throat.

Fearing for her life, she allowed him to take the bag and he fled the hospital.

Immediately afterwards the police were called to the scene.

An internal investigation is also ongoing in the hospital itself into how the man was able to access a restricted zone, only accessible by key card.

One possibility being investigated is that the intruder may have entered through an open window and staff are being warned to make sure that all windows are kept closed.

The midwife involved is said not to have been harmed been but was greatly shaken by the incident.

At present, the suspect has not been found.
