Just after midnight yesterday, police responded to a call that a baby had been found inside a gym bag.
The infant was located inside the bag on top of a collection box just inside a family planning clinic in US state, Georgia.
His umbilical cord was still attached.
Chamblee police department are calling him a “miracle baby.”
In a Facebook post, they wrote:
“The infant remained in the gym bag all day without any nourishment or attention. The boy weighs 4.86 lbs and appears not to be full term.”
They also shared a photo of the baby boy in the arms of one of their policewomen.
According to CCTV footage, the baby was dropped outside the clinic in the early hours of the morning.
The gym bag was then brought inside by a member of staff who assumed that it belonged to a patient.
Police say that based on the timeline of the incident, the baby boy is lucky to be alive.
The infant is currently in the care of the Division of Family and Children Services in Georgia.
The police’s investigation is ongoing.
