Mother admits she wants a pet monkey, and everyone thinks it’s ludicrous

We haven't come across a post like this before.

While there is a whole host of forums on the Internet talking about everything from breastfeeding to troublesome teens, we haven't come across a post about wanting a monkey. While we have seen thread upon thread on wanting a dog or a parrot or a cat, never in our life have we seen someone longing for a monkey. The mother wrote on Mumsnet:

"I have watched the video of the monkey being reunited with the individuals who saved it, and it was so cute, and now I love monkeys and want one. Am I being absurd? The sensible part of my brain would never get one, but the (bigger) reckless part of my brain would. I know it's not feasible, but my heart has been stolen by monkeys. What do I do?"

Many users replied to her saying that it isn't a good idea (obviously) and would be cruel to the animal. One said:

"Anyone who really loved animals wouldn't want a pet monkey. In the 1960s Harrods used to sell lion cubs, which seems more than a little crazy now! "Stick with youtube videos to scratch that itch." While another warned: "Just don't. Once a monkey reaches sexual maturity they become aggressive and would make your life hell. And it wouldn't be fair on a monkey to live indoors - they are wild animals. Step away from the monkeys!"

Absolute madness.
