Bit much?
Baby showers are lovely.
They’re a time for celebration, eating lots of food, making mocktails, and hoping that baby stays inside of womb long enough for mum-to-be to enjoy the festivities.
They are not generally a time for other mums to take over and impose their beliefs on people through the baby shower’s theme.
Unfortunately though, this is exactly what happened here.
One anonymous woman took to parenting Facebook page, Sanctimommy, to declare that they had decided to hijack their “BFF’s” baby shower and turn it into an anti-circumcision party instead.
Yes, you did read that correctly.
She wrote:
“You guys, my friend made it clear she wants to do something I disagree with, so I’m making plans to co-opt her baby shower to let her know I mean business.”
The ‘something’ in question was circumcising her baby and the ‘co-opting’ included handing out bumper stickers about why it’s better to not circumcise your child.
Or, as she puts it, “anti-circ” stickers.
Understandably, people on Facebook weren’t all that impressed with the suggestion to commandeer this shower.
In fact, they thought it was fairly ridiculous.
“I, for one, LOVED my vegan best friend’s “meat is murder” baby shower she planned for me,” wrote one person.
“I would be super concerned about why my “friend” is so obsessed with my son’s penis to throw a party about it. Seems like a disgusting obsession to me…” said another.
One person even went so far as to suggest that they should “… have stretched his foreskin so that I can tuck his entire body into it thus creating a human cocoon of flesh.”
Wow.
It remains to be seen whether this “BFF” will go ahead and take over this baby shower or not.
We just hope she leaves the bumper stickers at home.
