My sister-in-law wants us to pay for Christmas dinner at her house

“The hosts earn reasonably well”

I have been daydreaming about Christmas dinner for at least two weeks now. Is it the highlight of Christmas Day for me? Possibly…

One thing that makes Christmas dinner taste even better is when someone else cooks for you.

You don’t have to spend hours in the kitchen, stressing out over when to make the gravy and how many roast potatoes everyone wants.

Dining at someone else’s house is just a pure delight.

Well, maybe not for all of us.

One mum has revealed her horror after her sister-in-law asked her to pay for her Christmas dinner.

She told Mumsnet she has asked guests to contribute €45 towards the meal… at her home.

“We’re going for a ‘second Xmas’ at sister-in-law’s house. They have requested that we each pay per head for the meal…,” she revealed.

“It’s been calculated that the family coming will basically pay for the food part and they’re gonna pay for extras.”

“I have already suggested it’s a bit much for some family who are traveling,” she explained.

“The hosts earn reasonably well, so I don’t understand this!” she admitted.

“We’re having to pay £45 to travel 2 hours and most people won’t be able to drink because they’re driving!”

Do you think the sister-in-law is out of order? We must admit we side with the mum on this one. Expecting people to pay for a dinner party that you’re hosting just isn’t right.

What do you think? Is asking guests to pay for their dinner a step too far?
