The sixth season of the show saw most of the characters coming to terms with the fact that the manor way of life was changing, and becoming somewhat outdated.
The state of Lord Robert Grantham's health comes into question throughout the final season, as he suffered from a stomach ulcer.
Mary and Branson have also taken over much of the running of the Downton estate to take the stress off of Robert.
Speaking of Mary, when we last saw her, she was married and expecting a baby with Henry Talbot. Gorge for her.
The Lady of the house, Cora, has chosen to become more involved with the local hospital, which saw her clash with her mother-in-law, the Dowager.
In season six, the lovely Lady Edith finally got her happy ending. She married Bertie Pelham and became the Marchioness of Hexham. A title that outranks every member of her family. Ooh la la. As for Tom Branson, he had moved to Boston to start a new life with his daughter, but soon returned to Downton. The end of season six saw him set up a car shop with Mary's husband, Henry. So yeah, everyone was in a pretty good place when we left them in 1925 - what will have changed in the last two years? We'll have to wait and see.Explore more on these topics:
